What this is

Ember is an app for writing letters and sending them to people: in the app, by email, or as physical mail printed and posted by a print partner.

Your account

You need to be 13 or older, and you are responsible for what is sent from your account. It is invite-only at present, and an invitation can be withdrawn.

What you write

Your letters are yours. You give us only the permission needed to store them, render them, and deliver them to the person you addressed them to. We do not use them for anything else.

Do not use Ember to send:

• anything to someone who has told you, or told us, to stop;
• threats, harassment, or anything unlawful;
• anything at all to an address you do not have a genuine reason to be writing to.

Accounts doing any of that lose access. Physical mail is real post going to a real house, and it is treated with the seriousness that deserves.

Paying

• Letters sent in the app or by email are free.
• Physical mail is charged per letter per recipient, at the price shown on the confirmation screen before you send. There is no subscription and no balance.
• The charge happens when you send. Your card is saved so later sends are one tap.
• Charges appear on your statement as EMBER LETTER.

Refunds

If a letter fails to reach the printer, that recipient's charge is refunded automatically, without you asking. Once a letter is with the printer it is in the post and cannot be recalled or refunded — the confirmation screen says exactly what is going where, which is why it exists. If something goes wrong that is our fault, write to us and we will make it right.

Delivery

Arrival dates for physical mail are estimates from the print partner and the postal service, not promises. A letter returned as undeliverable comes back to your return address, and we will tell you it happened.

Ending it

Close your account whenever you like; export everything first if you want it. We may close an account that breaks these terms. Letters already delivered stay with the people who received them.

The legal part

Ember is provided as-is. We do not promise it will never lose a letter, though we have tried hard to build something that does not. To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months.
